Issues

After years of discussions of about the right way to deliver IT support to the Grünenthal R&D the support had come to a grinding halt. While Grünenthal – well known for its antibiotics – was thriving in economic terms a major dissent on the optimal support between the (commercial) IT and the R&D had paralyzed its developments over years. Necessary IT support was missing, installed systems were outdated and compliance to the FDA requirements GLP, GCP and GMP was threatened.

Objectives

The Managers task was to analyses and document the gap between the actual and the desired situation, dig for the root causes, develop a cooperation model and an IT strategy for R&D, convince top management that R&D had specific IT needs, define and initiate a small number of support improvement projects and to manage most of them.

Deliverables

As a result a totally new network infrastructure was installed, the hardware installation base was completely renewed, and new scientific applications were selected, acquired and implemented. Finally the operational model lived up to a trustful cooperation with the commercial IT.
