Identity- & Access Management Strategy & Architecture
Issues
Assessment of the Identity Management (IAM) Strategy of a large German Software vendor (SAP AG). Due to ‘historical’ reasons SAP’s Identity- & Access Management systems and processes had grown to form a fragmented architecture. In order to demonstrate compliance with several national and external regulations and to support the new system ‘business-by-design’ in a seamless way, a general clean-up appeared to become necessary.
Objectives
The management consultant’s role was to document the current practices and systems, assess the current IAM strategy and planned architecture, and draw a vision of the desirable future situation an present it to the involved parties. By moderating the different opinions to result in unified view across different business units the recommendation of a mid-term road map could be agreed on.
Deliverables
As a result, a documented current and target architecture, an agreed IAM strategy and a commonly accepted roadmap defining the implementation steps were delivered. The implementation project had been set up and started.
